When loading up CAS you will be prompted with whether you wish to "create your sims story" or not.
Clicking on "No Thanks" brings you to the "old" CAS.
Clicking on "Okay" well brings you to the next screen. Choosing the Age of your sim.
After selecting the Age of where you want your sim to start out at, you will be prompted by a series of questions. Your answers will determine your sims:
All 3 traits
Note: You can skip any question you don't wish to answer.
Once you are all done your sim will appear as a male or female where you will be prompted to give them a name, change their gender, clothing and of course you can change their body/facial features as well.
You will also get a look at the story you have created for your sim.
Once you have decided on a world and picked out a place for your sim to call home, your starting out funds do change from the way it used to be.
Side note: Choosing to add more than one sim to the household you will get the option of creating their story as well with the exception of creating a child through using genetics, you will not be able to create their story.
I plopped a newly created Sim down in Glimmerbrook, in CAS I opted to not do the story telling and just created her from scratch giving her my own set of traits. Once I got her settled into her new home I went in search of the portal. You'll find it at the waterfall to the right of the empty buildable lot.
I then sent my gal to the portal. When clicking on the portal before entering, you will be given a pop up message to either continue or go back. Of course, to become a spellcaster she had to go through it to enter the Realm of Magic.
There are several different portals off the main floating land mass. One is to the garden area, not much to do there as you can't enter the destroyed garden center. One goes to the dueling battleground. If another spellcaster offers to challenge you in a duel, this is where you'll go. And one to where you can buy your magic wands, familiars and brooms.
(image coming soon)
Gaining experience as a spellcaster, your sim can choose which path they want to pursue by choosing to learn spells and cast magic from the three schools of magic. Untamed, Practical or Mischief. My sim choose to follow and learn Practical. Here she has learned to spell of Repairio and Scrubaroo
My sim go on good with the Sage of Practical Magic (she eventually ended up having his child and they are now living happily ever after) here they are dueling in one of the rooms at the school of magic
Here she is at the Duel Battleground challenging a friend
On that note, I can say that I have spent many hours/days playing this particular pack. It seems to have held my attention a bit longer than any of the other packs ( I have all ). I can say that after having my sim marry a Sage from the Magic Realm, he no longer is a "Sage", but he has kept his level which is Virtuoso. Their sons (twins) inherited the bloodline and will be able to practice magic once they grows up. For more information on offspring and bloodlines go here.
Looks like a huge patch is coming our way on Thursday, Octobder 3. An announcement has been made regarding Maxis not supporting MacOS Lion (10.7) after this date. What this means is Maxis - The Sims, will no longer be issuing patches for this system and you will no longer be able to update your game or download any new content coming out after October 3. For information on this you can see the announcement here or here.
Game patch was released. Didn't look to be all that huge. Two new costumes for adult male and female plus some, very few, fixes to the game.
Here's a look at what free items came in the patch on 11.12.19:
Once loading up the game you will see the main menu has a new addition to it
How to find the UI scaling option:
Go to the "..." (Options Menu), click on Game Options
then click on Accessibility, then use the slider to adjust the UI to your liking. WARNING: putting the slider in the Red Area's may cause problems in your game. Use in these area's is at your own risk!
Now lets take a look at those adorable CAS clothing for our tots and kids!
And the scalable columns in build
When using the columns there are several things I noticed. 1) in order to place more than one you have to exit out of the scaling option and click on the next one you want to add or you can just click on the "copy" option. 2) When scaling up more that one story, you can not have a "landing" or deck in between floors. Flooring and roofs will act as a capping point. If you do wish to have a deck or landing in between floors it will have to be small in order for you to use the scaling option or just do it the old way and put another column on top of the bottom one.
You will notice that some columns have a limit to how high they can go and will be marked with an icon in the catalog as shown below
And there you have it for what was new in the patch released on 11.12.19.
Since Discover University was released I've spent as much time as I could on days off work and at least an hour - hour-half after supper on days that I did work and before retiring for the night. I still don't believe I've *discovered* everything about this new expansion pack to The Sims 4. There are a few things that I would like to pass along that I had encountered.
1) When going off to University you will need to:
Apply to go to University
Apply for Scholarships that are available to your sim, however if your sim has 0 skills there will only be one available and that's the "local resident" one. (Meaning a scholarship only available to which world your sim lives in)
Wait to see if you are accepted. Usually within a sims 24 hours. (If you apply on a Sunday, you can check on the following day to see if your sim was accepted)
So I made a male sim, plopped him in a home I made a while back and yes I used the cheat and maxed out a few, just a few , skills. I pretty much I had an idea as to what I wanted him to study while creating him, I did not use the story generator in CAS, and I knew which Uni I wanted him to attend.
To cheat skills without using a mod just type in: testingcheats on and then type in stats.set_skill_level major_(skill name)(number)
He was accepted! Woo!
Next he got to choose which campus he wanted to enroll in. (you will still need your computer to enroll) I wanted him to attend Britechester and get a degree in Computer Science.
Upon entering Britechester or Foxbury be warned. If you choose dorm living, you'll want to make sure you choose the one WITHOUT Maxis's pre-made Uni sims! Otherwise choosing those dorms, you will have to managed them along with your sim. I found this out by moving my guy into the dorm that had the two girls, Becca Clarke and Julia Wright. Well lets just say he spent more time flirting with all the female residents than paying attention to class and having shower *ahem* shenanigans with Becca he didn't do so well in his first term.
So I hooked him and Becca up, moved them off campus and hopefully he will pay a bit more attention to school and his studies.
You also have the opportunity to either pay for your schooling costs with household funds or sock your student in student load debt. During your stay at uni your sim can also start paying off that student loan if they wish to do so.
If you haven't viewed the game play video the team put out here are a few things that are new and were added to base game:
*You can now assign left and right sides of double beds
*you can lock bedroom/dorm room doors to only allow your sim and their roommate in
*you can lock computers/laptops down to only your sim or to keep a certain sim out
*bicycles and a new category in buy mode - Transportation
All in all, so far from what I have been able to play, I have really enjoyed this pack and exploring it. I like the option of being able to choose between campus's to attend, being able to travel to the opposing campus - I haven't done this yet but oh the possibilities! I like that you can also choose to stay in your home world and attend college. I haven't done this one yet either! This would be perfect for that family member like mom or dad or even grandma or gramp's to attend college or the single parent to attend college to better their life and that of their child(ren). Thinking about all the game play situations and what stories could be spun from this pack are endless. Having all the other packs added to this one makes this game iteration almost complete.
